"Mental health…is not a destination, but a process. It’s about how you drive, not where you’re going."
We can't deny from the fact that teachers are indispensable in our entire education system and so is their mental health and wellbeing. As teachers, we give so much thought to other people–our students, our school management, our stakeholders and our fellow teachers throughout the day. However, we are so fogged by the day-to-day grind of planning and preparing that we forget to focus on our own mental wellbeing. We tend to ignore our stress and anxiety levels in lieu of our unconditional love for education and teaching children. But the gratification from teaching can sometimes come with pressure and performance management that’s always looming in a teacher’s mind. Children always seek role models and people whom they aspire to be like when they grow up and a mentor plays a pivotal role in that. A cheerful teacher amanates positivity which directly influences the learning environment whereas presence of a sapped teacher is likely to have a detrimental impression on the students' learning environment. As a result, it leads to poor student outcomes. Mental health plays a crucial role in life of an educator. Healthy mind having healthy approach leads to positive outcomes. Happy teachers make their students happy and happy students create happy classrooms... and happy classrooms make a happy school. As teachers, we must understand our role not in the school only but in the society as well because teaching is a profession which creates all other professions.
